As sovereigns remained in circulation as pound coins until the first world war, most Edward sovereigns are quite worn. Many people put aside a few shiny new coins from the first year of a reign, but not as many of the following years get saved. This often makes the subsequent years of a reign more difficult to find in top grade. We usually have a selection of 1908 sovereigns in stock from different mints, and in different grades, at a variety of prices.

Mints
In 1908, The Royal Mint in London, and the Australian mints in Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, and the Ottawa Mint in Canada all issued sovereigns. You can visit our Mints & Mintmarks page for further information.

Canada Mint Sovereigns
All dates of sovereigns from the Ottawa Canada mint are scarcer than other mintmarks, but for some years they are rare or very rare. We have a Canada Mint page with more information about them. The 1908 Canada Mint sovereign is the rarest of all the dates of the Canada Mint issues, and we have yet to own one.

Availability
As with many older sovereigns, availability can be quite variable, particularly in better condition. Often we come across small batches of sovereigns, all of a particular date and mintmark, so that we have an abundant supply while stocks last, then we may not see another similar batch for years.
